Launched in 2016, Canines for Africa is a not-for-profit organisation based in Morocco. Registration #116825, Fiscal Identity #18721429
We operate as a 501(c)3 through our US partner H.O.P.E. A minimum of 75% of received funds go directly into the field; it is projected that this will rise to 85% in the near future. In the United Kingdom, our charity partners CHINA TIGER REVIVAL allow us to claim gift aid when applicable thus adding 50% on to the value of your donation.

Our financial statements are fully transparent, and are audited by the international firm of accountants OXEA (www.oxea-audit.com).

Our procedure

Once a Patron has sponsored one or more K94A Units, we start the process of drawing together all the elements necessary to create the final product- a well trained, self-contained and highly efficient anti-poaching Team.

Included with each Unit is:
  - Detailed research into the suitability of the recipient Reserve
  - Careful selection of the future Handler, including a polygraph test
  - A sixty-day accredited and independently accessed training course for the Ranger, held at our dedicated centre in South Africa. All expenses are          covered, including travel.
  - A top-quality service Canine selected and trained for his specific role
  - Extensive K9 equipment
  - Shipment of the Dog to his new home
  - Follow-up visits to the recipient Reserve to assess and fine-tune the team’s performance.
 - Full replacement of the dog should he become incapacitated during the first year; free training of a replacement Ranger in the same circumstances.

A single-dog Unit makes a significant impact on poaching outcomes in a reserve. A two-dog Team more than doubles the effectiveness, while a three-dog Team constitutes a fully autonomous anti-poaching force.
We also operate a highly effective Rapid Response Unit, employing a pack of hounds (blueticks, foxhounds, bloodhounds and their crosses).

Our patrons

Our Patrons are private individuals, foundations, institutions, companies and charities, from around the world.
All Patrons have access to the private portal on this website, where further details of our Operations can be found, together with updates on the progress of their sponsored K9 Units.

As a Patron, you have the option of:

  • naming your Dog,
  • witnessing his training sessions first hand
  • visiting the Reserve where he operates
  • getting to know his Handler
  • placing your logo on the uniforms of the rangers and on the protective vests of the canines
  • receiving regular updates on the activities and progress of your Unit or Team, enabling you to share your commitment to conservation
  • being informed personally if your Dog has saved an animal, caught a poacher, found contraband, or accomplished some other important feat.
